On day marked by collisions, four people injured in various accidents

Emergency services were kept busy by several crashes around Dunedin yesterday.

Three people were taken to Dunedin Hospital with moderate injuries after a head-on crash on Dunedin’s Northern Motorway yesterday afternoon.

A police spokeswoman said two cars collided on State Highway1, near Leith Valley Rd, about 2.10pm.

Several St John ambulances, Fire and Emergency New Zealand appliances and the Otago Regional Rescue Helicopter were there.

The road was blocked for some time and the resulting traffic queues caused a nose-to-tail crash further along SH1, but no-one was hurt.

Earlier in the day, an elderly man was also taken to Dunedin Hospital with moderate injuries after his mobility scooter and a car collided in Kaikorai Valley Rd.

The police spokeswoman said the incident happened about 10.30am, near Hermond St and the driver of the car was not injured.

Later, emergency services were called to an Indian restaurant in Kaikorai Valley Rd shortly after 3.30pm, after a four wheel-drive hit a shop window. A
