Transtasman co-operation will be to the fore next week when penguin experts from New Zealand and Australia converge in Oamaru for the eighth annual Oamaru Penguin Symposium.
The two-day event will focus on penguins from New Zealand, Australia and the subantarctic islands. Conference convener Philippa Agnew said universities, the Department of Conservation and nongovernment groups would all be represented at the Oamaru Opera House on July 12.
"The conference will give attendees the opportunity to hear about current research into penguin biology, and hear about the status of penguin populations and what is being done ... to aid their conservation and management."
