The merger of Carisbrook-Dunedin and Kaikorai appears to be going perfectly if the Bing Harris Shield table is anything to go by.

The combined side is well clear on the ladder after the latest round of games. The two clubs combined because of a lack of player depth and have knitted together well.

Carisbrook-Dunedin Kaikorai sits on 171.5 points on the Bing Harris ladder, while Albion is a significant margin back in second place on 133.5 points. North East Valley, which won the title last year, has 113.5 points. Green Island sits on 103.5 points.

Taieri is fifth on 95.5 points, with University Grange in last place on 53.5 points.

In 50 over games played on Sunday, which was an extra round in a congested calendar, CDK had a commanding win over University Grange.

Batting first at Logan Park, CDK hit a very impressive 375 for five wickets in 50 overs. Otago Volts squad member Mitch Renwick scored an unbeaten 130. He faced 92 balls and hit 62 runs in boundaries.

The two CDK openers, Cam Hawkins and Vinay Chandrappa, both scored half centuries at the top of the innings and Jordan Gain tallied 64 near the end.

In reply the University Grange side was never in the running and was dismissed for 83 for nine in the 26th over after its final batsman retired hurt.

CDK skipper Kurt Johnston took four wickets, while Chandrappa also grabbed a four wicket bag as the newly merged side won by 292 runs.

At Brooklands in Mosgiel, the home team won a close one over Albion thanks to the tail wagging.

Taieri scored 205 for nine wickets in its 50 overs thanks to an undefeated 86 from Riley Dixon. Taieri lost its sixth wicket with barely 60 runs on the board. But Dixon came together with Dwayne Weir and the pair added 85 for the ninth wicket, which was a record for Taieri, beating the record set in 1975 by Don Hatfield and Wayne Martin.

In reply, Angus McKenzie scored 76 and held the Albion innings together. But once he went the visiting side was struggling and eventually the last man was out 22 runs short of Taieri’s total.

Regan Flaws, Ben Lockrose and Nathan McNicol took three wickets each.

In the other match, North East Valley had a commanding win over Green Island at Sunnyvale.

North East Valley batted first and scored 263 for six. Will Kindley scored 83 and there were other contributions from Hunter Kindley (42) and Corey Perrett (37).

Green Island was limp in reply scoring just 82 and being dismissed at the end of the 22th over.

Otago Volts contracted player Jarrod McKay grabbed three wickets for NEV.
