Ice-scrapers popular

With plunging temperatures this week, Waitaki Road Safe and the Waitaki District Council (WDC) have experienced huge demand for a timely project to supply free ice-scrapers.

For the second year, a joint project run by volunteers from Waitaki Road Safe and WDC road safety co-ordinator Elton Crane, aimed at reminding motorists of the need to keep windscreens free from ice is again popular.

Road Safe volunteer Sharyn Price said 1000 "big red ice-scrapers" were made available, free, at North Otago service stations, the Oamaru Police station, Oamaru i-site and the AA.

"Demisters and heaters can fix fog inside, but ice has to be scraped off. Visibility must be sorted out before you drive, not on the way."
