Together, they have won both the South Island and New Zealand zigzag hunt titles at the sheepdog trial championships at Alpha Burn Station, near Wanaka.
Mr Kilmister said yesterday he could not be "any prouder" of his dog.
Pulse, a huntaway, also won the bench class or "best-looking dog" section, in the pair's first time qualifying for the national event.
Five-year-old Pulse had enjoyed a "very good year", also winning top dog in the Wairarapa and Southern Hawkes Bay centre.
Mr Kilmister began "seriously" competing about five years ago and hoped to continue this week's winning run at future national championships.
"I've got to catch up to Lloyd Smith [Waihemo triallist] and see how many New Zealand titles we can win."
The national title in the straight hunt went to Hakataramea Valley farmer Aaron Bell and Molly, who placed sixth on Thursday in the South Island event.
Molly, Mr Bell's only dog running in this week's event and a previous North Otago centre straight hunt winner, had been trialling most of her seven years and was "probably at her peak" at present.
"I might get another couple of years out of her."
This year was Mr Bell's fourth time running at the national dog trials.
The trials wrap up today with the New Zealand heading finals.
