Car hits bridge, driver injured

The driver and sole occupant of a car was taken to Oamaru Hospital with moderate injuries after the car hit Waikoura bridge, at Awamoko, northwest of Oamaru, yesterday.

Firefighters from Oamaru and Duntroon helped with traffic control after the 12.36pm crash, a Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokeswoman said.

A police spokeswoman said that traffic initially had built up, but had continued to flow past the crash site, and arrangements had been made to tow the car away.
