Operations have been slightly affected at the Silver Fern Farms Finegand meat plant near Balclutha by a fire inside the facility's lamb cuts section on Saturday night.
Balclutha, Kaitangata, Kaka Point and Milton volunteer firefighters were called to the 7.30pm blaze. In total, seven fire appliances attended the smoke-filled plant, where firefighters needed breathing apparatus.
Some damaged packing equipment would be replaced this week and the affected area cleaned, Silver Fern Farms communications manager Ruth Mackenzie-White said.
Processing would resume in a limited capacity tomorrow and by the end of the week it would be back to normal, she said.
In the meantime, the company's Silverstream plant at Mosgiel would run an extra night shift to process meat which Finegand could not handle, Ms Mackenzie-White said.
"It should have no effect on farmers at all," she said.
Ms Mackenzie-White said no staff were injured in the fire which had caused "minimal disruption".
"It's mainly just a clean-up job," she said.
The fire was not being treated as suspicious.
