Global Insight: Rising tensions in Ethiopia could affect NZ

Full version below

Ethiopia tottering on the edge of civil war has alarming implications for New Zealand, foreign affairs specialist Professor Robert Patman says.

Fighting has broken out between Ethiopia’s federal government and the armed government of the country’s northern Tigray province.

Prof Patman says the country’s proximity to the source of much of New Zealand’s critically important oil supplies is an alarming situation.

‘‘It looks like we could be headed towards a civil war with regional instability and possible implications for security of oil supply,’’ Prof Patman says.
