Campus garden hailed as success

The first campus harvest festival has been hailed a success and hopes are it has raised the community garden's profile with students.

A Students for Environmental Action and Otago University Students Association initiative, which started in September, was developing a garden plot on unused university land near Anzac Ave.

Spokeswoman Tarsh Turner said the project was still in its infancy. Just four beds had been developed for the summer and planted with donated vegetable plants, herbs and fruit bushes.

"We've got a huge crop of pumpkins."

Another four beds were put in at the harvest festival this week, with the help of about 50 volunteers, she said.

Anyone who helped in the garden could take home the garden's produce, as could anyone from the university community, she said.
