The process to build a new board for the Otago Rugby Football Union continues to gather pace.
A date has been set for a special general meeting of the union and prospective board members are now being asked to put their names forward.
The union is going through a consultation process on its new constitution which it had to change as part of the agreement with backers to save the union from liquidation last month.
The consultation should take place over the next 10 days and a special general meeting of the union will be held on May 1.
This meeting will adopt the new constitution of the union.
Also at this meeting the statement of the financial performance for 2011 and the financial situation of the union will be presented.
If the new constitution is adopted, two representatives from the clubs will be elected to the board selection panel.
The new president, mostly a ceremonial position, will also be appointed at the meeting.
Prospective board members have until May 4 to put their names forward.
Union change manager Jeremy Curragh indicated earlier this week the new board would be appointed and in operation by the end of next month.
Those who want to be board members will have the chance to serve for one to three years, although the normal term after the initial transition period will be three years.
Only six vacancies are available, as indication has already been given that the present board of 11 will be significantly reduced.
That may change under the consultation, but it appears unlikely.
