Thefts from cars prompt warning

Car owners in the St Kilda and City Rise are advised to remove possessions from their vehicles following a spate of thefts.

Acting Senior Sergeant Tania Baron said in the latest incident two teenagers were chased from a vehicle parked outside a Young St property by its owner about 1am yesterday.

A police dog was unable to find the pair, she said.

Three hours later a 17-year-old was arrested on Prince Albert Rd, after being found in possession of a long kitchen knife and two pillowcases.

Acting Snr Sgt Baron said cars in St Kilda and City Rise had been targeted during the past four weeks by thieves looking for cellphones, laptops and change left in parked cars.

Owners were advised to remove such possessions from vehicles.
