Sergeant Blair Wilkinson, of Oamaru, said a dark red 2002 Mazda CX-5 and a black 2013 Mazda Atenza were stolen from a car dealership between 2pm on Saturday and 8am on Monday.
The offenders had broken into the car dealership office, stolen keys and made their way off with two vehicles, Sgt Wilkinson said.
‘‘[The vehicles] don’t have plates, they’ve been freshly imported and were yet-to-be registered,’’ he said.
Anyone who had seen the stolen vehicles, or had information on the break-in, was asked to contact Oamaru police on (03) 433-1400; police non-emergency phone 105; Crimestoppers 0800555-111.
■ A would-be thief was scared off a rural property near Peebles on Friday afternoon.
At 1.30pm on August 14, a Waitaki Valley resident discovered someone searching a vehicle on their State Hwy 83 property, Sgt Wilkinson said.
The offender fled the scene and nothing had been taken.
‘‘I’d just encourage people on farms to keep an eye out for suspicious visitors on their property and record details of vehicles they don’t know,’’ Sgt Wilkinson said.
Police are also investigating a burglary at a business in Orwell St overnight on Friday. A cash box was taken.
