Trail leader Don Morrison said morale was high despite everyone being sodden.
"We're sort of disappointed if we don't get a bit of bad weather ... one year there was frost and snow."
The walkers had started in Roxburgh, spent the night in a woolshed in Little Valley and were heading to Clyde last night on their way to Bannockburn.
Cavalcade co-ordinator Terry Davis said although four trails were somewhat stuck in the Nevis area, spirits were high there, too.
He said about 76mm of rain had fallen in the Nevis in the last 24 hours. Creeks were really high and the road in and out was "clayey and mud" which meant the catering vehicles were stuck, though the horses could get out.
He said two of the trails had planned to have a rest day anyway but if the ground did not dry out enough for the catering vehicles to move, supplies would be driven in in 4WDs.
A walking trail was "in the high tops of the Garvie Mountains" and out of cellphone reception but Mr Davis said he had "every confidence" in the trail boss and hoped the walkers would stay in the huts.
