The Highlanders halfback was named Highlanders man of the year at the franchise’s annual awards night at Toitu Otago Settlers Museum.
Smith, who will play his 150th game for the team on Saturday night against the Hurricanes at Forsyth Barr Stadium, was given the award by former captain Ben Smith.
Loose forward Shannon Frizell was named forward of the year and was also the players’ player of the year.
Openside flanker Dillon Hunt was named defender of the year. He is the leading tackler in the competition, having made 89 tackles in seven games. Frizell is next on 83 tackles.
Winger Jona Nareki was named rookie of the year while the injured Connor Garden-Bachop was announced as the player who helped out the most in the community.
A special presentation was made to Mark Hammett, who is leaving the franchise after four years as forwards coach.
