Older drivers in the Waitaki district have an opportunity to refresh their driving skills and update their knowledge of the road rules this year through free workshops offered as part of a road safety initiative.
Waitaki road safety co-ordinator Elton Crane said the first older drivers' workshop will be held on March 26.
"This is a great way for older people to discuss their driving concerns and sharpen up on any road rules that may cause confusion, including a discussion on the new give-way rule," he said.
Three workshops were held last year, as well as an introductory mobility scooter course, all of which were very successful and attracted full attendance.
"Feedback from participants was very positive, with many stating they enjoyed the friendly, non-threatening atmosphere and the opportunity to ask questions."
The workshops will include a voucher for a free practical driving assessment with a driving instructor.
Mr Crane said this was a popular option in 2011 and helped to reinforce key points covered in the theory refresher discussions.
Only 20 spaces would be available on each workshop.
The first workshop is at the Plunket rooms in Severn St from 10am to 4pm.
