Ohoka Rebel, unbeaten in 10 starts, has six rivals including London Legend (25 wins) at Addington on Friday night.

Ohoka Rebel is on a 10m handicap and London Legend 20m in the five wins plus special conditions race over 2600m.

Ohoka Rebel was among 36 horses nominated for the $1.2 million New Zealand Trotting Cup (3200m) at Addington on November 11 when entries closed yesterday.

The race, the richest in the world for aged pacers, is run as a free-for-all this year.

The $300,000 Dominion Handicap for trotters at the Cup meeting will also be a ffa.

There were 43 horses entered for the NZ Cup last year when entries closed on September 11.

The stake was then $600,000.

It was increased to $750,000.

"The club [NZ Metropolitan] is disappointed at the number of nominations this year, given we normally have around the 50 mark," Tony Lye, the racing manager for the club, said.

"A number of last season performers have either been sold or retired and there does not seem to be as many coming through the grades which could be attributed to the concessions age group horses receive."

There are no Australian entries.

"Given the stake increase we would have expected Australian interest but with travel restrictions surrounding equine influenza it makes it nearly impossible to consider the race."

Trainers Tim Butt and Phil Anderson who have won the NZ Cup the last two years with Flashing Red, have entered Report For Duty, Bachelorette and Tribute.

"Report For Duty and Tribute are due at trials and likely to start in the Hannon (at Oamaru on September 21). Bachelorette is a bit behind the other two," Butt said.

Tribute ran third to Flashing Red and Monkey King last year.

Changeover, who finished fourth, has been entered by trainer Geoff Small, along with stablemates Awesome Armbro and Zenad.

The entrant Likmesiah is now trained by Robert Dunn. Likmesiah won at Forbury Park last November when trained by David and Catherine Butt.

His other 12 wins were from the Mark Purdon stable.

The entry fee was $200.

There is a sustaining payment of $400 due on October 29 and a late entry fee of $15,000 no later than November 4.

The entries are: NZ Trotting Cup, $1.2 million, ffa, 3200m: Absolute Magic, Bettor's Strike, Ohoka Arizona, Artishake, I'm A Dazzler, Morty, Ohoka Rebel, Seaward, The Gigolo, Zenad, Bachelorette, Charles Bronson, Chilli, Cup Day, Mr Molly, Pulsation, Retail Therapy, Rocket Reign, Wave Runner, Fake Chance, Gimme A Break, Keeprightondreaming, B Grudge, Presido, Likmesiah, Nick Off Holme, Report For Duty, Special Ops, Gotta Go Cullen, Waipawa Lad, Awesome Armbro, Tribute, Changeover, Roman Gladiator, Baileys Dream, Monkey King.

• The trotter Boyz Success delighted trainer Nigel Chalmers with a close second at the Forbury Park trials yesterday.

Boyz Success was a winner at Invercargill in March from eight starts as a 3yr-old.

She was spelled the following month.

"That was just what I wanted her to do today," Chalmers said.

Boyz Success ran Nordic Sun to a neck in her first trial in a fresh preparation.

She tracked the seasoned Nordic Sun in the lead.

Bankers Moment, now trained by Craig Buchan, shaped well to finish second to Winfield Glow yesterday.

The Wall Street Banker 5yr-old mare was placed at Addington from nine starts for Jim Curtin last season.
