Dunedin police are concerned a thief, or ring of thieves, is at work in Dunedin after 10 separate reports of car break-ins and thefts of goods from cars in the city last week.
The reports came from Davies St, Mulford St and Rory Cres, in Concord; Skibo St, in Corstorphine; Main South Rd, in Green Island; Kevin St, in Mornington; Exeter St, in Abbotsford; Easther Cres, in Kew; Law St, in Caversham; and Oakland St, in Andersons Bay.
GPS units, laptop computers and other portable electronic items as well as clothing or cash were taken from the vehicles.
In five of the cases, the cars were parked in driveways, but had been left unlocked.
Senior Sergeant Bruce Ross said thefts from cars seemed to be on the increase.
He asked anyone with any information, or who had seen any suspicious activity, to contact their nearest police station.
"People should not feel, even if their car is parked up their driveway, that it is safe. They need to lock it too, and set alarms or ensure it is secure."
