Tash Williamson (22) and Rebekah Morton (19), both of Dunedin, won first and third place in the apprentice hairdressing category of the Australian Aftermath Hair Education competition for their snipping, colouring and styling of mannequins.
Entries to The Tribe Awards, hosted online by Aftermath Hair Education, were uploaded to Facebook and judged by the 13,000 members of the online group.
The group was initially created by two Australian hairdressers in response to Covid-19, to ensure hairdressers could continue sharing ideas with each other internationally and refining their skills even as hairdressing salons across the world had to close.
Ms Williamson, who won first place from 36 entries globally, said she was "so so happy".
"I couldn’t believe it."
She received nearly $3000 worth of hairdressing-related prizes for the win.
Ms Morton placed third in the same category, and won more than $1000 in vouchers.
Ra Hair owner Sarah Martin said she was "so proud" of the two women.
"We watched hours and hours of videos online during lockdown.
"It’s paid off.
"I feel I could go on forever about how amazing these girls are and how proud I am," she said.
