Young Otago writers prominent in anthology

Young Otago writers have made a splash in the latest edition of an anthology celebrating New Zealand's best teenage writers.

Five young Otago writers were selected for publication in the annual Re-Draft anthology.

The 11th edition of the Re-Draft series, The Temptation Of Sunlight, features work by two Otago secondary school pupils and three university students.

Queen's High School pupil Madison Hamill (16) had a poem, Unrequited Love, and fiction piece, The Dark Space Below Her, selected, while Maniototo Area School pupil Giles Graham (18) had three poems, Babel, Soldier Smith and Woman's Wages accepted at his first attempt.

University of Otago student Ashlee Dolamore (19) had poem The Beauty of Broken Things and fiction work Seeing Stars chosen, and fellow student Nicole Phillipson (19) had Interview With a Runner and Soul Match selected.

Former Columba College pupil Yin Lin (19), now studying medicine in Queensland, also had two stories, You, Me and My Teacher accepted for publication.

"These are the people who are likely to draw the map of New Zealand literature in future years and this is a glimpse of their talent," co-editor James Norcliffe said.
