The Catlins Great Escape Coastal Walk 2012 will be held this Saturday, giving walkers the chance to trek across privately owned land.
Walkers will be transferred by bus from Hinahina, southeast of Owaka, to Purakaunui Bay, where the walk begins. The course will follow the Catlins coast and is expected to take three to four hours, finishing with a sausage sizzle at the Hinahina Yacht Club.
Landowner Alan Burgess said there were many beautiful spots in the Catlins, and advised walkers to take time to enjoy the scenery.
"It's lovely to just have a walk with these views. Take Purakaunui Bay, for example. On a clear day, you can see Cosgrove Island, and the beach was even used for the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe film."
Registrations open at 8am, and the bus from Hinahina to Purakaunui Bay will depart at 9.30am. The walk is expected to finish around 4.30pm.
The walk was first held last year and followed a route from Sandy Bay to Newhaven.
