A Clutha tramping club will hold a camp for about 40 Christchurch residents affected by earthquakes.
The Otago Youth Adventure Trust-Rotary Club of Milton Tramping Club Inc is holding a camp at Berwick Forest Lodge, near Waihola for Christchurch residents affected by the earthquakes.
Peter Vollweiler, of Waihola, said the tramping club approached social services in Christchurch who identified migrants were struggling to cope in the aftermath of the Canterbury quakes, and would benefit from the camp.
Volunteers of the tramping club have had 25 years of experience looking after groups of people participating in various outdoor activities, and wished to offer a "helping hand" to some of those who may need it, he said.
"We hope to give them a good time, and show them a good Kiwi holiday."
Mr Vollweiler said camp visitors were from all over the world including Korea, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Ethiopia and Somalia.
The camp runs from Sunday to Friday, and is fully paid for by the club, donations and sponsors.
Mr Vollweiler said the club offered to provide the camp free of charge - including food and transport from Christchurch and return - to a limited number of families and people directly affected by the Christchurch earthquakes, who felt they would benefit from this break away.
The Berwick Forest Lodge is an outdoor education lodge, about 35km south of Dunedin, owned by the Otago Youth Adventure Trust Inc.
The group aimed to organise a programme that would suit most age-groups, and all activities would be optional.
Activities includes games, archery, target shooting, abseiling, bushwalks and tramping, kayaking, a confidence course, sightseeing, or boating.
