Two cars have collided on the route into Queenstown from Lake Hayes this morning, causing gridlock.

The collision occurred just before the bridge on Frankton-Ladies Mile Highway and traffic stretched as far back as Lake Hayes itself.

A recovery vehicle attended.

One car was significantly damaged at the front, with the bonnet bent out of shape and the bumper mangled.

A second car was damaged at the back, which suggested a shunt.
