A.J. Hackett Bungy New Zealand has appointed David Mitchell as its new chief executive, after the resignation of Michelle Trapski in August.

Mr Mitchell, originally from Christchurch, joins bungy from an applied technology and management company, where he worked in Dubai as the managing director of its Middle Eastern operations.

Qualified with engineering and business degrees, he would bring a wealth of experience in project management, competitive strategy and targeted growth to his new role.

Bungy co-founder Henry van Asch said Mr Mitchell would help strengthen and lead the management team, and would play a "crucial role" in advancing AJ Hackett Bungy as a leader in adventure tourism and innovation.

Mr Mitchell's tenure would officially begin on February 7, and Mr van Asch would provide him with a "thorough introduction into the bungy culture".

"Five days in the raft at the Kawarau Bridge will be the best way for him to gain an understanding of our valued customers and an opportunity to talk with many of our great crew."

A keen sportsman with strong family ties to Queenstown, Mr Mitchell, his wife and two young daughters are looking forward to returning to the resort.
