Cricket: One-sided results in reduced games

University-Grange 69/4 beat Caris-Dunedin 65/10 by six wickets

Classy bowling spells from James McMillan and Sam Wells led to University-Grange demolishing the Carisbrook-Dunedin batting line-up, setting up an easy six-wicket win.

In the rain-affected game, McMillan starred with the ball, snapping up six wickets for just 32 runs off his spell. Wells also caused trouble at the other end, taking four wickets.

Only Rhys Phillips showed any fight for Carisbrook-Dunedin, his 24 by far the highest score of the 65-run total.

The run chase was never going to bother the University-Grange batsmen. James Simpson top-scored on 24 and his team chased down the total in just 15 overs.

The one bright spot for Carisbrook-Dunedin in an otherwise gloomy match was James Welch's three wickets from his eight overs.

Kaikorai 195/4 beat Taieri 140/10 by 55 runs

Kaikorai cemented its place on the top of the Dunedin 50-over competition with a solid win over Taieri at Bishopscourt.

Kaikorai raced along from the start scoring 195, from the reduced 30-over innings.

Captain Iain Robertson proved again how valuable he is for his team, with a quick-fire 82 coming off just 53 balls. He was joined by Colin Aitken, who scored his 59 off as many balls.

Taieri got off to a decent start, with opener Anthony Harris scoring a nicely played 38, but he found little support from the rest of his team, and Taieri was all out 55 runs short.

All the Kaikorai bowlers put in good efforts and shared the wickets between them. Aitken and Robertson contributed again, with two wickets each.

Green Island 191/8 beat North East Valley 93/10 by 98 runs

It was an easy victory for Green Island on Saturday. It never let North East Valley into the rain-affected game, dominating with both bat and ball.

A second-wicket partnership of 75 between Greg Croudis and captain Jordan Sheed set the base for the 191-run total. Mark Joyce (53) and Dion Lobb (28) also contributed with their quick-fire totals, as Valley's bowling attack proved to be ineffective.

Things then went from bad to worse for Valley as its top three fell for just eight runs. The rest of the team unable to recover, and Valley slumped to be all out for 93.

Both Sheed and Lobb proved valuable with the ball as well, picking up three wickets each.
