Takeaway app Regulr crashes due to high demand

The Regulr mobile app has crashed this morning amid high demand for takeaways on the first day of Alert Level 3.

The app enables users to order hot drinks and food from nearby hospitality establishments for pick up.

On it's Facebook page Regulr said while it thought it was ready to handle the demand, it was unprepared for "how many of you really wanted coffee this morning'.

It was working on a fix this afternoon.

Morning Magpie owner Troy Butler said he had spoken with Regulr, who said the crash was nationwide but were working on a fix.

With the app not working he had set up payWave outside the cafe, and had people ordering over the phone or from outside instead.

"It's been busy, it's good.

"The app's never been used at this capacity so it's completely understandable to have teething issues."

The Otago Daily Times received reports of people unable to use the app to order takeaways from local cafes.

The Corner Store owner Mark Anson said his cafe had encountered some issues with the app, but was encouraging people to phone in their orders instead.

"We have had some issues with it [Regulr].

"We've got a counter set up and are taking orders over the phone instead.

"It's been good to be back open, it's been really nice seeing some big smiles from people."
