The Ministry of Health (MoH) have changed the details of Case 39, which was announced on Friday, to say a man in his 20s who is in the Otago region after the case was previously labelled as a man in his 60s from Auckland.
The new details reveal the man travelled to Queenstown from Los Angeles via Auckland on Wednesday.
The Southern District Health Board said today the man was from Wanaka and had been overseas, including in Europe.
"He has been in self-isolation since his arrival into Queenstown on 18 March. He has mild symptoms and is at home. Contact tracing has commenced."
It brings the total number of cases in the Southern District to eight.
This includes another confirmed case in Otago which was announced today.
Queenstown Lakes District Mayor Jim Boult has reiterated the need to follow all Ministry of Health advice in the light of today’s confirmed case of Covid-19 in Wanaka.
“I have been advised that this first case in the Upper Clutha is a male who arrived via Queenstown Airport, transferring from an international flight from LA into Auckland,” said Mayor Boult.
“I am sure this will be a jolt for our Upper Clutha communities," Mr Boult said.
Cases 27 and 28 were both confirmed on Thursday by Ministry of Health's Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield and have now had their flight details released.
On Thursday, the Southern District Health Board said the two cases were a tourist from Spain, who tested positive in Queenstown, and a Dunedin woman who had recently travelled overseas.
The Otago Daily Times has asked the MoH for comment.
