Miraculous survival after horror speedway crash

Christchurch driver Hayden McKay is lucky to be alive after miraculously surviving one of the most horrific crashes ever seen at a Canterbury speedway.

McKay's modified car went flying into the air after making contact with another car then rolling several times before coming to a stop at Woodford Glenn.

McKay suffered bruised lungs and dislocated both his shoulders.

Although one of his shoulders found its way back into the socket as he was being removed from his vehicle.

He spent a number of days in hospital and is now recovering at home.

The crash occurred during the Streetstock State of Origin and Wingless Modified Champs and Demolition Derby meet earlier this month.

McKay finished fourth fastest in the modified time trial and third in heat one earlier in the night on March 7.

The crash occurred during the second lap of heat two and caused the race to be cancelled.
