Liquor outlets pass test

Central Otago police are praising liquor outlets in their towns after a controlled purchase operation on Friday night saw none break the law.

In the operation, run in conjunction with the Central Otago licencing authority and Public Health South, eight establishments in Alexandra and five in Cromwell were visited by a person under the age of 18 trying to buy alcohol.

Senior Constable Brett Pay, of Alexandra, said the staff at the establishments did "an outstanding job".

It was the second such operation in Alexandra this year. Last time they only managed to visit two outlets and both were caught breaking the law, he said.
