Auditions for the Otago University Students’ Association (OUSA) Capping Show ran last night at Dunedin’s Teachers College Auditorium.

Capping Show choreographer Kat Kennedy (25) led a warm-up, which included learning a dance to Boys by Lizzo and aimed to ease the nerves in the room full of strangers.

The show, which will mark its 126th year, is a parody-based theatre show which addresses student issues, culture and trends.

Of about 60 students who auditioned over two nights, 14 would be cast as actors.

There would also be spaces for writers and backstage crew.

OUSA event co-ordinator Shannon van Rooijen said everyone from drama students to medical students would audition and it was a great way to escape the stress of university work.

‘‘They create a family at university ... It is great for stress relief and companionship.’’

She and the team of directors would have a tough decision to make, with double the number of auditions to last year.

The theme of this year’s show was still a secret and would not be revealed until April.
