Operational managers and business owners will benefit from a new leadership course at the Queenstown Resort College (QRC), which is believed to be the first of its kind in New Zealand and is poised to go nationwide next year.

The QRC Westpac Take 5 Better Business course will be launched today with the aim of growing managerial leadership within the Queenstown business community, college business development manager Sarah Cairns said.

"It's been in development for over 12 months. The industry really identified to us there was a gap in the market at that level," Ms Cairns said.

A dozen delegates registered and three spaces were available for the first course which involved the study of five modules on the college's executive floor on Wednesdays from 7.30am to 10.30am.

The modules were titled business communications, leading teams, measure what matters, leading with cultural intelligence, and sales versus marketing master class, with guest speakers throughout and a networking function at the end.

The 12 people who signed up were a mix of visitor development managers, human resources, sales and marketing and operations managers, plus general managers from several Wakatipu businesses, Ms Cairns said.

"Our facilitators are professionals from the tourism, advertising, international sales, hospitality and business sectors. They are also trained facilitators who will inspire and engage industry professionals on a leadership and managerial learning platform."

The $699 fee applied for one person for five modules, or up to five people who took one module each.
