Firefighters are battling another large blaze in Canterbury this morning.
Crews have spent the past two days fighting five large vegetation fires across the region, including one that covered about about 100ha.
Two of the blazes were in Loburn near Rangiora, one was in Prebbleton, another in Hurunui and another in Chertsey, near Ashburton.
Dozens of firefighters remained overnight at the scene of the two large scrub fires along the banks of the Ashley River.
The fire was located near Ashley St, behind the showgrounds.
Ms Crosson said firefighters were still at the scene of the 250m by 50m fire on Tuesday.
Four tankers and two pumps from the Rangiora Fire Station were being used to extinguish the blaze.
Yesterday Rangiora residents said the air was "reasonably thick with smoke" and ash was floating around.
However, rain is expected to set in on Tuesday evening.
