The Kiwi Birdlife Park last weekend launched a bus service taking visitors on hour-long journeys through Queenstown's attractions.

Aiming to show passengers Queenstown as it is, and once was, the Kiwi Circle bus takes a trip around local attractions, stopping at locations such as the Queenstown Gardens and Fernhill.

"The reason why I wanted to launch this is because I was born and bred here and there's a lot of history here that I feel sometimes gets lost in the development around Queenstown," Kiwi Birdlife Park director Paul Wilson explained.

"So I think it's very much aimed at being able to share that with the tourists."

Drawing on "the quirkiest and most interesting" stories about the area, compiled by park support person Annabelle Numaguchi, tours leave from the Kiwi Birdlife Park.

Mr Wilson said the tour pointed out places like Camp St - literally the site where settlers would camp, with the prison simply a tent where prisoners were tied to a log - and the One Mile Powerhouse, which was established after a gas explosion on the waterfront.

Tickets for the service, which leaves at quarter to the hour each hour from 8.45am, are $25, and they can also be purchased as a Kiwi Birdlife Park-Skyline Gondola combination.
