One year until switch to digital TV

The one year countdown to the end of analogue TV begins today, (Friday) and the Government is urging people to get ready for the switch to digital.

Hawke's Bay and West Coast will be the first regions to make the switch, losing the analogue signal on September 30, 2012.

The rest of the country will follow suit the following year, starting with the remainder of the South Island in April, the lower North Island, Taranaki and Gisborne in September, and the rest of the North Island in December.

Broadcasting Minister Jonathan Coleman said eight out of every 10 households in Hawke's Bay and the West Coast had already switched to Freeview or Sky and he urged those who had not, to plan ahead by making the move.
