October is breast cancer awareness month. Alpine Health and Fitness manager Richie Heap said following on from last year's successful "Bid for your Bike" RPM class, which raised $5500, the one-off class would be returning on October 8.
Participants at the normal RPM class, a body pump class, a pink zumba class and a stretch class on the Saturday morning would all be encouraged to dress in pink, and a gold coin donation would be requested.
The mass RPM class would begin at 12.30pm.
"We've managed to get the old Pulse Fitness bikes for the class, so we'll have 50 bikes in total," Mr Heap said.
Those wanting to take part could either bid for a bike - by making a minimum $20 bid via a silent auction - or "buy" a bike for $100, guaranteeing a spot in the class.
Mr Heap said group fitness instructor Maria Bradley, a breast cancer survivor, who had organised the October events, had also organised prizes for participants.
Ms Bradley said local businesses had been incredibly supportive and had come up with "fantastic" prizes.
Each bike would be numbered and random draws would determine which rider won which prize.
On October 7, a home-baked afternoon tea would be provided in the group fitness room for the "pink afternoon tea", aimed at older gym members, Mr Heap said.
The Queenstown Primary ukelele group would provide entertainment for the afternoon, and tickets would be $5 a person.
Ms Bradley said the afternoon tea was aimed at those who might not want to participate in the RPM class, but had been affected and wanted to support breast cancer patients.
Lakes Leisure would also be selling pink shoelaces for $10 a pair during October, the proceeds going towards the pink pilates movement.
Proceeds from the special events would go to supporting people with breast cancer in the Wakatipu.
• Tickets for the pink afternoon tea would be available from the Lakes Leisure reception next week, and bidding for the special RPM class would open on Monday.
