Spokesman Francis Parker said a wonderful collection of local businesses and individuals came together to support the T20 finals and helped raise almost $30,000 to help the Palmer family.
"Esme Palmer (4) is currently battling stage four Burkitts lymphoma in Christchurch and the whole community has got behind her," he said.
The finals of South Otago Cricket’s T20 competition were held at the Balclutha showgrounds on Saturday and Bash for Cash organisers attracted a large crowd to watch the action, while supporting the appeal.
Using social media they brought together an eclectic collection of charity auction items, which included a large assortment of signed sporting memorabilia.
Among the wide selection of items offered for the auction were a complete wedding package, including venue, hair and celebrant, filled chilly bins, heat pumps, emergency locater beacons, furniture vouchers, gift baskets, handmade bar furniture, makeup and pest-control services, gift baskets and a 10-person high tea.
"Before a ball was even bowled on Saturday the auction had already raised over $23,000. So many awesome people and businesses have come to the party to support such a great cause," Mr Parker said.
Once the balls and bails started flying, another set of sponsored items came on tap covering the number of fours, sixes or runs scored.
There were cash donations for any shot that hit the Cross Recreation Centre roof (two balls did) or cleared the grandstand or for a one-handed crowd catch.
Organisers also had a selection of fun activities and food for families on site helping to raise money for Esme’s appeal.
Esme’s father, Jason, said via FaceBook that "Megan, Esme and myself wish everyone the best for the cricket today. We are just blown away by the support and generosity in the community and words cannot describe how appreciative we are."
The sentiments were echoed by Esme’s aunt, Laura Allan, who attended the Bash for Cash and spoke on behalf of the family.
"It’s hard to express in words how much we appreciate the generosity and kindness shown to our family.
"We are overwhelmed by the support from the community and will be forever grateful for the community’s support," she said.
The couple said they were amazed to watch from afar as their community pulled together to raise fund to help them, Mrs Allan said.
Mr Parker said they would be counting up the proceeds and asked people to continue to give through the givealittle page.
