Truck gets stuck under Oamaru rail bridge

One lane of an Oamaru street was blocked for about 30 minutes this morning after a truck became wedged under a rail bridge.

Constable Jay Morriss, of Oamaru, said the incident happened about 10.15am when the driver of the Conroy Removals truck misjudged the 3.5m clearance height of the Humber St rail bridge while travelling south towards the intersection with Itchen St.

The truck, which was empty at the time, was able to be moved after its tyres were partially deflated.

The driver declined to comment when approached by the Otago Daily Times.

KiwiRail staff were in the process of inspecting the bridge and the road was re-opened shortly after 10.40am.
