Balmacewen prevails in rematch of final

In a rematch of last season's final, Balmacewen narrowly prevailed over the Anderson's Bay Rennie side in club tennis at the weekend.

In the top women's singles, Ayesha Horley (Anderson's Bay Rennie) looked a step above Kaitlyn Wilkinson (Balmacewen), taking the match 7-5, 6-3.

In the second singles, junior Maya Haigh (Anderson's Bay Rennie) moved up the order to take on Jessie Stevenson (Balmacewen).

While Haigh showed signs of what is to come, Stevenson ultimately proved too strong, wrapping it up 6-2, 6-2.

In the third singles, Charlotte Byers (Balmacewen) defeated Makayla Ramage (Anderson's Bay Rennie) 6-3, 6-1.

The top men's singles between George Alexander (Anderson's Bay Rennie) and Jack Warner (Balmacewen) went the distance with Alexander taking the first set 6-1.

After an erratic start to the match, Warner was able to find his groove when it counted, bouncing back from a 4-3 deficit in the second set to clinch it 6-4. He was able to carry his momentum into the tiebreak and take it 10-7.

The second men's singles was a battle of experience and youth, as Mike Smith (Anderson's Bay Rennie) took on Max Gaffaney (Balmacewen) in a lengthy battle in which Smith prevailed 6-1, 6-4.

In the third men's singles, Nick Cutfield (Balmacewen) proved too crafty for division 1 debutant Mark Pickering (Anderson's Bay Rennie), winning 6-1, 6-2.

Balmacewen went on to claim the all-important fifth win of the tie through Warner and Cutfield as the duo defeated Smith and Pickering 6-1, 6-1 in the men's doubles.

Balmacewen won the tie 5-4 with the doubles win.

In the second tie of the day, Green Island proved too strong for Anderson's Bay Guthrie, taking the fixture 6-3 and making it two wins from two since the side's return to division one.

The match of the tie was when Hugo Tomlinson (Anderson's Bay Guthrie) beat Matt McCutcheon (Green Island) in a drawn-out affair, 6-1, 4-6, 10-5.
