Police are investigating a report an envelope containing an unknown powder has recently delivered to a Mosgiel property.
The property owner had contacted police on Saturday and was unsure what the powder was, a police spokeswoman said.
Possibilities include drugs, or a harmless substance.
The spokeswoman said police would be making inquiries "to determine the nature of the item".
