The hunt is on for a new chief executive for Bungy New Zealand Group after Michelle Trapski announced on Monday she would be stepping down from the role at the end of September.

Ms Trapski has been with the company, which is based in Queenstown, for eight years - six of those as its chief executive.

She was leaving the company with a "great sense of pride and achievement" and was keen to explore more governance roles.

"I haven't any firm plans as yet, and I definitely won't be leaving Queenstown, but the time is right to leave the business on a high, to go do something else.

"This company continues to be as dynamic and innovative as ever, including development of the multimillion-dollar Kawarau Zipride project, which is due to open at the Kawarau Bungy Bridge in the near future."

After leaving the company, Ms Trapski would assume an "industry advisory role" for the company.

AJ Hackett Bungy co-founder and director Henry van Asch said it had been "delightful" to work with Ms Trapski for nearly a decade.

"She has improved the performance of the company dramatically and has always amazed me with her focus on, and dedication to, the customer; the extent to which she is fiercely loyal to her team; and her commitment to the company."
