Teen in court over stabbing

A teenager charged in connection with the stabbing death of 18-year-old Warren Rosillo has made a brief appearance in court today.

The 17-year-old faced a charge of possession of an offensive weapon but police said more charges were likely.

The accused's family and friends watched from the public gallery when he appeared in Manukau District Court this morning.

His lawyer, Barry Hart, made applications for bail and interim name suppression, arguing that if his client's name was in the media he would lose his job.

Community magistrate Philip Greenbank stood the matter down until later this morning to consider the applications.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Glossop earlier told NZPA Mr Rosillo was stabbed after an argument over a woman outside a south Auckland party on Friday night.

His friends tried desperately to save him by performing CPR but he died in the middle of the road.

An autopsy was being carried out this morning.
