More than 100 people will take part in the auditions, with six soloists heard in Oamaru on Saturday.
The concert's artistic producer, Doug Kamo, said that applications would be called later in the year from bands and groups wanting to perform in the free concert.
The concert is to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Otago Daily Times and the opening of the stadium. Auditions that were to be held in Queenstown last night were postponed because of dangerous driving conditions.
Organisers yesterday were stuck in Invercargill because of road closures and are now looking at holding the auditions this afternoon, weather permitting.
Kamo said he hoped to finalise the time some time after 1pm today.
The last auditions will be held in Dunedin on July 29 and August 1.
