The Otago Museum and the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum have signed an agreement involving a staff exchange programme.
The first staff member from the Shanghai institution will visit the Otago Museum later this year and spend several weeks learning more about how the museum is run, as well as pursuing a specialty interest.
The exchange agreement was signed in Shanghai last week by Otago Museum chief executive Shimrath Paul and Prof Wang Xiaming, director of the science and technology institution.
Mr Paul said the staff exchange agreement was a "great stepping stone" in the relationship.
The Otago Museum plans to send its first staff member to Shanghai next year.
