The last 10 minutes of the first half decided the game when Kaikorai squeaked home 25-23 against Alhambra-Union at the North Ground.
Alhambra-Union made good use of the wind to control the first spell and led 18-5 after 30 minutes.
Kaikorai then held on to the ball and started on its comeback when flanker Jamie Williams scored a try just before the break.
It took Kaikorai 28 minutes to draw level 18-all when Cam Rutherford kicked his second penalty goal.
Kaikorai took the lead after 36 minutes, when fullback Matt Direen darted down the blindside and flying winger Tony Ensor scored the winning try.
Alhambra-Union almost claimed the draw when they put eight phases together before No 8 Jeremy McKee scored in the corner. But Peter Breen could not add the conversion into the strong head wind.
Captain Jim Stevenson was the rock upon which Kaikorai built its win. He started at No 8 and later switched to his favourite position at prop. He made a lot of ground with the pick and go.
Lock Callum Wardell won lineout ball and centre Logan Moore was the key to the backline and distributed the ball efficiently.
First five-eighth Peter Breen was the best of the backs and scored two first half tries among his 18 points. Flanker Jeremy McKee was the best of the forwards.
