The new Special Olympics New Zealand Queenstown Lakes Club will take on Southern challengers at tenpin bowling on the club's first ribbon day, next month.
The 45th national club for people with intellectual disabilities is taking registrations for the tournament, at Arthurs Point, on Saturday, July 9.
Five or six Queenstown Lakes club athletes are expected to compete for a ribbon placing, alongside visiting Special Olympics New Zealand athletes from Dunedin, Gore and Invercargill.
To qualify, "developmental bowlers" must have bowled for at least four sessions and be a registered Queenstown Lakes athlete.
Club co-ordinator Ellie Forrest said the club's coached aquatics programme was running at Alpine Aqualand, and four athletes were being trained on Sunday mornings.
Club members were also considering snow sport sessions this season.
Ribbon day registration costs $20 per bowler, which included two games and lunch.
Supporters and coaches would pay $10, which also included lunch. Forms can be obtained from Mrs Forrest at 021 076-9282, or at training at Strike Bowl, on Wednesdays, at 5pm.
