Island Park could be the first team coming from a nine-hole course to win the men's metropolitan senior A pennant series title after beating Chisholm 5-1 on its home course on Saturday.
The win puts Park into second on 13 points and 12.5 games with two rounds of the home-and-away series to go.
The team took an early lead when Park No3 Kyle Geary was struck on the shoulder by a stray golf shot after walking off the 10th tee.
Geary could not play on, giving the match to Island Park's Phil Bungard to put the local team in front.
The Park's top two players, Monty Wong and Chris Snow, both posted wins while team captain Michael Minty required 14 holes to beat Chisholm counterpart Mark Collie.
Park No 6 Mike Wray was too good for Justin Park, winning 5 and 3 to give his team its fifth victory.
Chisholm No5 Mackenzie Gibson was the sole winner for his team, beating Shane Stuart 5 and 4.
The Otago team was too strong for the Taieri Lakes sextet with four wins and a half leaving the Mosgiel side headed for the wooden spoon.
In the battle of the No1 players, Nick Borren forged ahead of Ryan Rosevear to eventually win with three holes to spare.
Ben Patston, Howard Maxwell and Duncan Croudis all posted wins for the Balmacewen team while, at No 2 , junior Hayden Robertson was the only Taieri winner, beating Luke Murdoch 2 and 1.
Taieri veteran Mark Andrews halved with Otago captain Brandon Hodgson, giving his team a 5.5-4.5 loss.
Taieri will have a last-gasp opportunity to make the playoffs when it meets fifth-placed St Clair in the final round.
However, the team could get further behind with a bye this Saturday.
