Wellington police investigating the murder of death-metal singer Matthew Hall believe his friends and associates may be holding back information crucial to identifying his killer.
Despite a confession from a man who was later found dead, they are still confident someone will be charged for his murder after he was found stabbed to death three months ago.
They are still hunting for the murder weapon, believed to be a large hunting knife.
Mr Hall, 35, a mental health worker who was a long-serving member of death metal band Backyard Burial, was found dead in his bed from stab wounds after a ferocious attack in his home in Broderick Rd, Johnsonville, on February 15.
Police today said they were still confident they would find the killer and bring them before the courts.
A large team was still working still on investigation and "police remain as busy and as determined as they were on day one", said Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Thornton.
Police had completed the scene examination and had received some preliminary ESR results, which led them to believe the murderer knew Mr Hall's home, he said.
A vast amount of investigative work had been put in over the past three months and there were still witnesses being identified.
However, witnesses had described a large hunting knife that was kept in the house which had not been found during the extensive scene examination.
"I believe amongst Matthew's friends and associates that there is information that they hold which could lead to identifying the offender for this murder. I urge them to contact us with any information they may have," Mr Thornton said.
He told the Dominion Post parts of the confession, made to a friend by fellow death-metal singer Tim Parlane and reported to police after he died, could not be corroborated.
