Green Island veteran Mark Joyce was named club cricketer of the year at the Dunedin club cricket awards last night.

Joyce has played more than 300 senior games for the club and has been a key contributor for the best part of 20 years.

He is the team's leading scorer with close to 8000 runs and had taken more than 600 wickets as well.

The all-rounder had another terrific summer this season, grabbing 19 wickets at an average of 17.80 and scoring 374 runs at an average of 46.80.

His efforts helped Green Island complete a sweep.

The Swamp Rats collected the Bing Harris trophy for the third consecutive year and they also won the one-day and declaration tournaments.

To cap off a marvellous campaign, Green Island will represent Otago and Southland at the club nationals in Auckland early next month.

Green Island has won or shared the national title five times, so it has a proud record at the tournament.

The batsman of the year award was claimed by Carisbrook-Dunedin and Otago back-up wicketkeeper Max Chu.

He had strong season with 454 runs at an average of 50.44.

That form resulted in his promotion to the Otago first-class team where the highlight was a gutsy innings of 41.

The club bowler of the year went to Carisbrook-Dunedin medium pacer Kurt Johnston for his haul of 40 wickets at 14.98.

Albion's Jack Coman collected the prize for the quickest century.

It took him just 49 balls to reach the milestone.

The services to cricket award was presented to Gerard Finnie for his wonderful contribution during more than a decade of involvement in the various junior cricket committees at club and metropolitan level, while Sharan Walker collected the DCA Cup for the outstanding contribution of the year. She is the backbone of the Taieri Junior Cricket Club.

Niel Louw was named umpire of the year.
