The twin bridges on State Highway 82 between Kurow and Hakataramea will close for two days next week, the third closure this year.
The closure on Tuesday and Wednesdayis for general maintenance, New Zealand Transport Agency South Canterbury senior assets manager Colin Hey said yesterday.
Most of the work will be on the decking.
The bridges will close to all traffic and pedestrians between 9am and 5pm on the two days, but open for 10 minutes every hour to clear traffic both ways.
Emergency-vehicle access will be provided.
The bridges closed for nine days in February because of high river flows and again for two days in March for pier maintenance.
The closures have prompted the community to seek urgent replacement of the 129-year-old, single-lane wooden bridges, which are closed for safety reasons when flows in the Waitaki River reach 1400 cumecs.
The agency last month released plans for new two-lane concrete bridges, but still need resource consents and funding approval.
