Meanwhile, reports of burglary in the student quarter continue to roll in, as residents of a flat near the University of Otago discover a pair of intruders in their house.
Senior Sergeant Craig Dinnissen, of Dunedin, said a party at a Hyde St flat on Saturday night featuring a DJ was attended by well-behaved students who were ''just minding their own business''.
But the same could not be said of their neighbours, Snr Sgt Dinnissen said.
"[The] students were well behaved, just minding their own business ... the neighbours, who were not students, were out looking for trouble all night apparently.''
They threw bottles at Campus Watch staff and yelled at them, and police were called when fights broke out.
A young woman was taken to hospital by ambulance with unknown injuries.
Snr Sgt Dinnissen said more fights broke out once officers left the street, including a brawl in a taxi company's car park between Leith and Hyde Sts.
Police locked up four people for fighting over the weekend, two from the Octagon and one each from Castle and Hyde Sts.
Three burglaries have been reported from the student quarter in recent days, one each in Dundas, Leith and Castle Sts.
During one of those burglaries the residents of the flat disturbed the intruders as they went about their work.
The burglars were described as a large man with curly hair, accompanied by a small skinny man.
