More than 3000 vehicle owners will be offered free new Warrants of Fitness after an Invercargill tester had his inspection authority revoked due to the poor quality of his work.
The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) announced this afternoon it had revoked Donald Stewart McLean’s vehicle inspecting authority, along with that of his business, The WOF Man Limited.
In a statement, the NZTA said Mr McLean had a history of conducting poor quality Warrant of Fitness (WoF) inspections, resulting in upheld customer complaints.
''Mr McLean failed to properly inspect brakes, exhaust systems and corrosion repairs.''
He also allowed his personal issuing authority to be used in inspections he did not perform, the statement said.
The NZTA strongly urged people who had a current WoF issued by Mr McLean to get their vehicle rechecked, citing the poor quality of his work.
"We are unaware of specific concerns relating to individual vehicles however, due to the poor quality of Mr McLean inspections there is a possibility that some vehicles may have been incorrectly passed.''
In all, 3515 vehicle owners were affected.
The NZTA said they would be contacted and advised on recheck options, while vouchers for a free WoF voucher would be provided.
